The College’s name “祥波”and the motto  “博学慎思 弘毅致远”on the emblem are inscriptions of Professor Xu Yangsheng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.

The image of the emblem features the soaring seagull with its wings wide open. The seagull symbolizes peace and safety, which echoes with “Xiang” （祥）in the Chinese name of Harmonia College（祥波书院）whereas the scene where the seagull often flies over ocean waves echoes with “Bo” （波） in the Chinese name of Harmonia College（祥波书院）. The sight of seagulls indicates to sailors a safe arrival on shore. The College is to the students what the shore is to the sailors. The College represents a warm harbor and a home for the students. Meanwhile, as a vivid representation of the college spirit of “Scholarship, Perseverance, and Excellence,” the soaring seagull also symbolizes resilience and strong will. In addition, featuring beautiful white feathers and great vitality, the seagull is the first choice for the ideal college mascot.

The emblem’s primary colors are blue, white, and gold. The blue and white are the official colors of Harmonia College. The white symbolizes the holy auspicious clouds, echoing “Xiang” （祥）in the Chinese name of Harmonia College（祥波书院）whereas the blue symbolizes the deep ocean, echoing “Bo” （波）in the Chinese name of Harmonia College（祥波书院）. Resembling the runways on the sports fields, the golden frame of the emblem embodies the college’s mission of building the sports culture which is distinctive of Harmonia College. It also implies that the establishment of the College paves a golden avenue for the future development of thousands of young Harmonians. “A time of harmony favoured by nourishing rains and propitious breezes, a college of Harmonia buoyant with lofty minds and grand prospects.”（祥风时雨 波澜壮阔）suggests that students should work hard and strive to improve themselves while studying at college, so that they could make great contributions to society in the future.
