Harmonia Kaleidoscope Phase 1 | Exploring the Experimental Play: Head without Tail

Dr. Alexzander Liu, a Harmonia affiliated teacher, and 16 students made their first off-campus trip together to see “Head Without Tail,” an experimental play staged at the Shenzhen Children’s Palace. Created by Mr. Meng Jinghui, the most influential experimental theatre director in the Asia theatre circle, the play highlights the nihilistic nature of superfluous reality in a post-industrial age. After returning to the campus, Dr. Liu led the participants to discuss the play in terms of the confusion in the ever-changing world, renewed perceptions of love and the ultimate philosophical question of “Who am I,” deepening their understanding of the avant-garde drama genre.

Harmonia Kaleidoscope Phase 2 | A Coca-Cola Factory Tour

In this phase, our students had the privilege to visit the Coca-Cola’s manufacturing and distribution plant in Huizhou, Guangdong Province. The tour started with Mr. Lv Yongqiang, the Director of Public Affairs & Communications at Swire Guangdong Coca-Cola (Huizhou) Ltd, showing the visitors around the manufacturing floor equipped with a range of programmable control devices. The poster on the wall illustrates how Coca-Cola has established itself from an Atlanta pharmacist's accidental drink creation to a beverage giant with overwhelming consumer loyalty. After in-depth, intricate explanation about plastic recycling and water replenishment processes, Mr. Lu led the participants to the Coca-Cola museum and the factory supermarket, where students got to taste the Coke's latest flavor.

Harmonia Kaleidoscope Phase 3 | Special Exhibition of Jinling Paintings over 400 Years

Adding a touch of Chinese traditional art to the national holiday, Harmonian teachers and students went to see the “Special Exhibition of Jinling Paintings over 400 Year” at the He Xiangning Art Museum in Shenzhen. The exhibition selected about 80 sets of artworks, not only by famous artists during Ming and Qing Dynasties, such as Dong Qichang, Gong Xian, Yang Wencong, etc., but also by the modern “New Jinling Painting School” featuring literati such as Fu Baoshi, Qian Songyan, Song Wenzhi, etc. who were active in Nanjing. After the one and a half hour tour, they returned to the College, where Prof. Huang Yongshun shed some lights on the features of literati’s spiritual cores in several prominent periods of the painting history of Jinling over the centuries.

Harmonia Kaleidoscope Phase 4 | Ancient Glass Art on the Silk Road

On the afternoon of March 4, 2023, led by Professor Li Bohan from HSS and college staff, our students embarked on a journey to the Shenzhen Museum to visit the "Lustrous Translucent Class: Ancient Glass Art on the Silk Road"-- Hirayama Ikuo Silk Road Museum’s exhibition tour in China.

Firstly, the exhibition hall unfolded the extensive history of glass art development across different regions of the world. Visitors were subsequently immersed in a visual journey highlighting ancient glass art's remarkable diversity and innovation. Starting from the humble beginnings of simple shapes and modest colors in glass craftsmanship, the journey progressed to the dazzling culmination of vibrant hues and intricate designs, showcasing the maturity of glass-making techniques.

Through the exhibition, the audience gains a profound understanding of how the exchange and interaction along the Silk Road have played a pivotal role in advancing ancient glass art. Cultures are like vibrant tapestries woven together through the threads of exchange and interaction. As civilizations engage in dialogue, share ideas, and embrace diversity, their collective tapestry becomes more colorful and intricate.

Harmonia Kaleidoscope Phase 5 | A Trip to Shu Guang College 

On March 5, 2023, Harmonia College embarked on an exciting visit to Shuguang College, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, alongside its basketball team and various student organizations. The visit commenced with a productive meeting, during which the two colleges had the opportunity to acquaint themselves with each other's development models, educational philosophies, and implemented practices.

Following the enlightening exchange was a campus tour providing an immersive experience for the visitors. The highlight of the visit was a friendly basketball match between the two colleges. The spirited competition showcased the skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship of both teams, fostering a sense of camaraderie and healthy competition.

To conclude this memorable day, a delightful dinner was arranged, where the students from both colleges gathered together to savor a delicious meal. The ambiance was further elevated by captivating student performances, showcasing the remarkable talents nurtured by both institutions. The evening was filled with laughter, applause, and a shared appreciation for the diverse talents and achievements of the students.
